Yesterday while I was back at work (first day of inservice for the new school year) Dave noticed we had company on the deck. Our deck is about 10 or 11 feet off the ground and the railing he(?) is sitting on is about 3 feet above that. Oh, and we do live on a bit of a hill and have seen some geese that are flying across the lower ground/valley come across almost at eye level but this is the first time we have had a chukar visit! Magpies have been known to noisily strut down the rail, and of course the cats. We also have pheasants that run through the yard and quail that wander down the drive way. The closest the quail have been is on top of the pumphouse. Oh, one year we had kestrels nesting in the eaves of the house next door and they fledged into the peach trees next to our lawn. Dave said that this guy sat there for about an hour and then disappeared!
He's beautiful. You are so lucky with all the birdlife you get around you.

Yes, these are pretty birds...also called Rock Pheasants. We have a friend who lives on the hill above us and she has had several roosting on her roof. I checked with her and those have 'disappeared' so maybe they have moved to lower ground.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting!
oops...make that a Rock Partridge...but they are part of the pheasant family!
