Baby quilt

This is a quilt I made for one of the teachers at my school. It is the oversize 9 patch with directions here but the red sections were too large (when I made all three up) so I decided to cut each of the 9 patches into quarters and transform it into a disappearing 9 patch (directions here!) Because the oversize 9 patch has pieces of unequal size the disappearing 9 patch looks quite different. I made the back out of the second quilt and I still have the third one that I can use for someone/something else. The measurements are about 35 by 40 inches and is filled with warm and natural batting. When I make a baby quilt my intention is for it to be used, not to become an heirloom! What was cute was the new baby's three year old brother was helping his Mommy open the packages and he decided to try this out and promptly laid down on the floor with it! Someone was concerned that I might take offense but I said 'oh, no! That's what it is intended for!' Mom was also pleased because of the ladybugs, which is the baby room's theme. I hand tied this quilt...that's a lot of work even for one this small!

As for other things, I am back in the throes of work. Last week the kiddos were mostly nuts because of getting back into the harness...this week they were nuts because of the full moon (yes, it does affect them!). Today I was able to accompany the 1st grades to the theatre to see a touring production of Bill Peet's The Ant and the Elephant. Very well done, with one of the characters playing the part of the author and showing the writing/creative process! Kids were well behaved, too!

On the creative scene, I've caught up with my postcard trades...will post pix later and I've joined another sewing group! I am trying to PACE myself better this year and not get involved with too many trades at once! I've also sent in my reservations for the Sewing Expo in Puyallup at the end of February. I will be going by myself this year, which is ok, but will probably run into friends there.

Trying to be more organized in my projects this year, also. Bought a small white board on which to keep track of things that need to be done and hopefully will keep track of the completed items here!

Thanks for visiting! Come again and leave comments as you feel moved!

  2. Nice quilt! I love that disappearing nine patch. Making it into a large block for a baby quilt is a good idea!
