English Paper Piecing

I have always stayed away from English Paper Piecing, because, for some weird reason, I don't like Grandmother's Flower Garden quilts - nor the ones that try to make pictures out of hexagons (I also don't like quilts made from yoyos) but I had an 'aha' moment when I looked at the cover of the Fall 2012 of Quilts and More! It was just a small table topper made with assorted fall fabric! Great idea! They had used some fabric that read as solid and done some embroidery on them, but I ditched that part and used smaller hexagons and just made them and put them together. This is my first effort, all done by hand (traditional!) except for the sandwiching and top stitching!)

Not too bad, but it sure took a long time. So, I decided to try machine basting and then zigzagging the pieces together and boy, was that quicker. Have now made 3 more - one for Christmas and 2 identical ones for center pieces on my TG table. Also have made matching napkins and table cloth for that one.

TG - with napkins and table cloth

I can use the TG tablecloth with the Christmas one, too!

I was at Craft Warehouse (similar to Hobby Lobby, though not as big and Pacific NW based) and spotted this panel early in October. I didn't buy it then but went back and was able to get the LAST ONE! They kitted it up for me and I have tried FMQ on it, roughly outlining the flowers, pumpkins, etc on the panel. Now to get it hung up! It's long enough that I need to get the extension ladder in!

Now, on to cleaning house and getting ready for TG!

Thanks for stopping by!
