Today I was going 'in to town' to a meeting and a gal in a big Mercury Mariner SUV pulled out of a side street before I cleared the intersection. I swerved to try to miss her but she still got the passenger side of my car. I did have enough of a clear brain to think about taking pictures with my iPhone so here is a shot of my car. The impact was just at the end of the front passenger door and extended all the way back to the back panel...fortunately we both have insurance and she was really nice (as was I)...When I left I shook her hand and said 'nice to run into you...hopefully we won't meet again this way'! She laughed as did I. I will get an estimate in the next day or so and get it fixed...and meanwhile I get to drive the pickup! Whee! Yeah...The whole thing could have been worse...
UPDATE! I had prior arrangements to have the car serviced so dropped it off yesterday and there is a body shop next to the dealer that they (the dealer) uses...so they got an estimate for me. Found out today that this body shop is on the 'approved' list of the insurance company so that should make things easier. And the estimate is....(hope you are sitting down! )...
$4,000!!!!
Thank goodness for insurance! I question a couple of things they have on the estimate...like I don't think I need a new wheel and replacing the 'hybrid' badge! Nothing wrong with those things that I can see! I know it's not my money, but it is someone's money and why should these things be 'replaced' if there is nothing wrong with them? I will go down tomorrow to talk to these folks and find out. Also the estimate says 12 days for repair! I want them to have all of the parts in place before I give them the car! I don't want to be without it that long if I can help it!
How much! That seems an awful lot.
ReplyDeleteThey are probably piling the cost on because it's the insurance company paying and not you.
