Today's post features some techniques that are new to me ...so I have been playing.
First up is a Lighthouse PC trade from ArtsNTheMail, using techniques that I learned from Fiber Art Traders!
Every couple of years we go to the northern California coast near Point Arena. One of the landmarks there is the Point Arena Lighthouse. For this card I played with some NeoColours that my sister gave me years ago. These are water color crayons, when scribbled or drawn on fabric (old muslin sheets) and then exposed to a damp/wet paint brush, will blend. So, the sunset and the water were the NeoColoured fabric. Then I took the photograph that my other sister took several years ago and with PhotoShop Elements cut out just the land portion, changed it all to black and printed off on some more muslin that had been backed with some Thermo-o-Web. This was a new technique also. All were ironed on to some Peltex 72 and then I added the top stitching for enhancement.
Next is S is for Sister...here I printed off an old picture of my mom and her sisters on some of the Printed Treasures fabric, stitched it on to a prepared base of fabric on the Peltex and then framed with either some old rick rack or as is pictured here some old elastic lace from my mom/grandmother's joint stash that I inherited when we cleaned out my parent's home 4 years ago. The final embellishment is an old button on which I cut off the shank and glued on.
Next up is a Map PC on which I played with tyvek and some alcohol ink and Luminere paint...first thing I learned is you must paint both sides of the tyvek! Then I put the treasure map on the tyvek using a trusty Sharpie (after cutting to approximate shape) and then hit it with the heat gun! Somewhat smelly but definitely lots of fun!
And the last card here is H is for Hopscotch. Using Print Shop I created the hopscotch layout (in color) and then printed on Printed Treasures fabric, cut out, stitched down around the edges, machine embroidered the numbers, machine meandered the background and then sewed on a couple of 'thrown' stones to complete it.
i love your experiments and playing. great colors on the light house. The treasure map looks like a fun experiment. thanks for the tips about painting both sides.
